Acer and ASUS, Taiwan’s internationally renowned computer duo, are both said to hit the global market with flat panel computers in the third quarter later this year in response to Apple’s sensational “iPad,” according to Economic Daily News.

To counter Apple’s strong momentum in the market of consumer electronic products, both of the local computer giants are now in process to test their products with better functions and performance, which will be priced at US$300 to 400 dollars compared to US$499 of their Apple counterpart, the report said.
In addition to the duo, Hewlett-Packard and China-based Lenovo are also said to develop their own products to follow the fetish trend that will last to the Computex Taipei 2010 in June.
However, operators of computer technology noted that Taiwan’s computer manufacturers can easily beat Apple with better hardware specifications, while it will never be a simple matter to outwit the technology giant over the integration of software and related services, the report went on.
JT Wang, the Chairman of Acer, also noted that hardware part will never be a problem for the Taiwan’s largest computer manufacturer. What Acer is now concerning about is the development of supporting measures that involve contents, software and services, which are commonly seen as the essence of consumer electronics.
